What We Do

Here’s what we do

At Compassion for Children CBO, we work with communities in Turkana to give every child the chance to survive, learn, and thrive. Our programs focus on five pillars that address the root causes of poverty and inequality.

Education & Sponsorship

We believe education is every child’s right.

  • Supporting ECDE centers and primary schools with learning materials and teacher training.
  • Expanding from 47 to 150 schools by 2030.
  • Running a Sponsor-A-Child program to keep the most vulnerable children, especially girls, in school.
  • Promoting community dialogues that challenge barriers like early marriage and child labor.

Impact goal: Higher enrollment, improved learning outcomes, and more children (especially girls) completing school.

Health and Nutrition

Child Health & Nutrition

Healthy children are better learners.

  • Mobile health outreaches and clinics in hard-to-reach villages.
  • Growth monitoring, deworming, and nutrition supplements for children under five.
  • Supporting school feeding programs in partnership with WFP and the county.
  • Promoting clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in schools and communities.

Impact goal: Reduced malnutrition and illness, stronger foundations for lifelong learning.

Child Protection & Rights

Every child deserves to grow up safe.

  • Training community protection committees to identify and respond to abuse or neglect.
  • Running awareness campaigns on children’s rights and the harms of early marriage and child labor.
  • Establishing child rights clubs in schools to give children a voice.
  • Linking vulnerable children and families to official support services.

Impact goal: Safer communities where children are valued, protected, and free from exploitation.

Community resiliency

Community Resilience & Livelihoods

Strong families mean stronger children.

  • Training households in climate-smart farming and drought-tolerant food production.
  • Supporting women and youth with alternative livelihoods and savings groups (VSLAs).
  • Helping communities develop action plans to cope with droughts and food insecurity.
  • Promoting climate adaptation through tree planting and sustainable resource management.

Impact goal: Families with stable incomes and food security, able to support their children’s education and health.

Youth Empowerment & Leadership

The future belongs to young people.

  • Training youth in life skills, leadership, and vocational skills.
  • Supporting youth action groups to lead community initiatives.
  • Connecting youth with mentors, role models, and opportunities for civic engagement.
  • Promoting youth-led advocacy on issues like child rights, education, and climate resilience.

Impact goal: Empowered youth who drive positive change and inspire the next generation.
